Associate Projects

Hosted projects which have been graciously contributed, but that may have differing usage restrictions from Classic AX84 Projects. Generally for your personal use only, but if you aren't sure, ask before you build. Please read our terms and conditions.

NOTE: These projects are contributed by their designers for use by members of the AX84 community. Complete documentation, such as layouts and drill guides, may not be available or may have been withheld by the designers for any of several reasons. In some cases, such documentation may be provided with the purchase of a kit or a complete amp from the designers. Please respect the project owner's wishes and employ these project documents "as-is" for your personal use. If you need a complete set of documentation, these projects may not be for you.

Guitar Amplifier Projects

AX84 4-4-0
A touch sensitive, dynamic, agressive LEAD amp in every sense of the word.  This amp is very sensitive to layout and component placement and should not be attempted as a "first build".

A inexpensive amp suitable for your first push-pull build.  The Comanchero has 3 12AX7 preamp stages followed by a 12AX7 cathodyne phase splitter.  The poweramp has a pair of cathode biased EL84's in it that deliver about 15W.  The preamp is unusual in that the tone controls are not in the signal path so the amp has more gain than one with a traditional lossy tone stack.  This amp is touch sensitive, dynamic, pretty agressive.
Soundclips can be found here.

A design for an 18 watt, push-pull, EL84 based amp contributed by Randy Fay.

AX84 Lead II
An amp with a bit more of a modern flavor, and capable of a variety of tones from country to alternative and all of it is available at a twist of the guitar's volume with virtually no loss of amp volume.  This project is also available in three sub-variatations by AX84 contributors.

AX84 October An amp with a classic "rock and roll" tone reminescent of the late 60's thru the early 80's.  Available in a variety of output power levels.

AX84 ÜberGain
A modern voiced, high gain amplifier.

Stereo Amplifier Projects

Harmless R0
A simple, 6V6 based stereo amplifier suitable for the shop, or for your den, if you don't need bone-crushing volume.  Contributed by Michael Gorsich. More info is available at Copper Amps.
