'Output Transformer Oversized'

Hi,

I built my P1 SEL using a Hammond 125FSE instead of a 125ESE (EL34 output tube), and it seems Ive lost some compression. I had a P1ex and it had much more.
Is it possible to increase compression without changing the output transformer?
Thanks!
Rafa

about the only thing worth trying is if you are running a 8 ohm speaker then wire it to the 16 ohm tap.

The P1eX has more preamp gain than the P1, and I'd be willing to bet that the difference lies there. As just a quick experiment to see if you're heading in the right direction, I recommend that you temporarily lift the ground leg (i.e. disconnect it from ground) of R21 in the latest P1 schematic. [link] That will soon tell you if you're heading in the right direction.
