Finally finished my 6ak6 build. The 6ak6 tube sounds great and really give that "big amp" sound at much lower volumes. Hopefully some day "they" will start making these tubes again.

I do have sound files.

I run these around 250v/9ma. Im keeping my schematic quiet for now. I did a lot of work to it to keep the bottom end tight and I have a power stage that, through lots of trial and error (and a happy accident) works well. The layout is a product of form and function. I moved things around several times until all the wiring looked great AND I achieved the lowest noise floor.

Not my mad skills. The guitar player answered an ad I placed in CL for someone to demo the amp. He answered the call......and rocked....

Just interested in the output stage, screen resistors, voltages, as there are not a lot of P-P amps out there using this tube. Since I have a dozen I am thinking of cooking up an amp for them.

Not really interested in the high gain stuff but you sure nailed the sound pretty good. Hard to imagine a couple of tubes smaller than most preamp tubes sounds so big.

super clean! That thing is gorgeous! Sounds great too! Hard to get the bottom end on those to sound so good. congratulations! I tried one with 4 6au6's but it didnt turn out nearly as well. Very cool!

Thank you for the kind words! Having a solid bottom end was #1 priority when designing this amp. It was originally prototyped with a 12au7 output and I could never figure out why the amp sounded so soft and dark. Especially after I had gone to great lengths to remove bass and flubbiness from the circuit. Switching to the 6ak6 brought back the brightness and definition immediately.

very nice, clean build and sounds great.

I love small pp amps, built SLO with EL91 and recently clean power amp with a pair of 6AK6. Love both.

Never tried the EL91. Looks to be about twice the dissipation of the 6ak6. -and pretty much a direct replacement. Are you the one who made the "orange" slo type amp.......

Would a pair of el91s be closer to 8-10 watts?
