I haven't modeled or tried a 12AU7 cascode, but I think it might work just fine. The plate resistance of the upper tube effectively gets multiplied by something like (mu + 2), so I think the output impedance would be primarily determined by the plate resistor of the top tube. I guess you'd need a pretty high supply voltage so the plate resistor could be reasonably large. Probably not worthwhile, when you could simply use a pentode instead. John |
