Just read though all this. I think the advice is good. Only other thing I'd do is go to a Chinese or Japanese restaurant and get a set of chop sticks. I'd maybe also get some adapters to run your iPod into your input jack. Hit play and then start poking on things. See if you make the problem appear or go away by poking on wires and tapping on your solder joints.
These problems are a bit annoying. It's so much nicer when there is clearly a resistor broken in half. But, you'll find it.
