From your perspectives I agree that I SHOULD just get a kit. BUT, some of the fun is sourcing the parts or at least coming up with a complete BOM with suppliers/part #'s of my own preferred parts (which I'm still trying to figure out which ones ARE my preferred parts). Once the list and location of the parts is finished, I plan on scrounging rummage sales and estate auctions to find what ever I can that matches my BOM this spring/summer The plan is to build it with inexpensive parts and once it is up and running swap out for best quality parts. Remember I am doing this as a hobby. At the moment I'm creating a project list at Mouser Electronics which so far has most everything. However back to topic- what was the verdict on the ceramic caps I posted?

If you wish to pursue the hobby of sourcing parts and rummaging around junk shops, then your course of action is reasonable. Personally, I find it a laudable goal, but I spend a considerable amount of time buried in library stacks and electronic databases hunting up old technology articles, so I may not be the best judge.

If, on the other hand, your goal is to pursue amp building, then buy the kit and save the junk bin for later builds after you have gathered significantly more experience with designing amps. Most junk bin builds depend on knowing how to design around what you happen to have at hand. Based on the kinds of questions you've been asking, I suspect you have a ways to go before you are ready for that kind of improvisation.
