I got a box of a dozen of those Russian tubes on eBait for about $36 shipped. I've been looking for a project to put them in. I might just get to it this winter. I've seen a number of threads suggesting excellent tone as long as you don't push voltage too high. I'm thinking something Fenderish will be good for them. As for buying real 6L6's, egad, don't go to a place like MF. There are a number of reliable people who make a market in tested tubes -- people who actually know what they are doing, weed out the suspect tubes, match them properly (if you want that), and who give personal service. For just a little bit extra (maybe) you'll get peace of mind. |
