(Iain) I have to agree with you (though not about the DOD-250..nastly SS thingy that it is! Urghh!) ;-} You can get a great tone out of a single 12AX7, but not the way the McTube does it. Wire it like a P1 and it's about 10 times better. And there are no doubt a dozen even better topologies, if you play around a little. I had some good results with the first two stages of the Melissa design on a breadboard lashup, and that's simple enough to do. |
